This is the first flower of the year to bloom on my property.
When I checked two days ago none had opened. But by today, we’re in business. I guess spring is really here (delayed a bit, no doubt!)
Happy Earth Day.

Thanks! I hope you enjoyed Earth Day too. 😀

The name Epigaea means ‘upon the earth,’ so it’s appropriate for Earth Day.

And I think “repens” means “down pretty close to,” or “creeps along.” Either way, that part is appropriate too.

It’s the second of those. Latin repens, meaning ‘creeping, crawling,’ is based on the same root that’s found in the word reptile.

Hah! That’s cool! Now I have a way of remembering it. 😀

Wow-you’re way ahead of us. I haven’t even found any budded yet. I did see some coltsfoot and spring beauties blooming though.

I’ve not seen either of those yet. Spring beauties don’t grow on my property, but coltsfoot has in the past.
