It is such a striking flower. It seems that the really pretty ones are rare this late in summer, so this is really a breath of fresh air.

Thanks Jim. I have a black canvas bag that I carry some of my stuff in, so I propped that up behind the flower. I had to crop it to get the top of the bag out of the shot.

It’s a beauty. I just found quite a large colony of these on the riverbank a couple of days ago.

This one grows right outside the door to my classroom at the church. It was the only one I knew about for a couple of years, and then I found that the ball field at the church is pretty thick with them.
