Tonight I took Penny down to Sandogardy Pond again. I went to the spot where I had found a mystery plant a few days back. I found another one, and it was in bloom:
The light was quite low, and I have cropped this one pretty tightly. It’s not the best photo I’ve ever taken by a long shot (and even a little embarrassing!) but it’s what I got.
I’m pretty sure this is mad dog skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora). The leaves are right, and the flowers look right too.
NH Gardener suggested that I count stamens and petals, but I had forgotten about that until just now. Still – I think this is close enough.
