This fire was lit with one match.

Tonight David taught 90% of the Fire Building and Camp Cookery honor. We ran out of time before we could cook food by boiling or by frying (we were going to make some spaghetti and fry up some grilled cheese). They did get to bake some cookies on a reflector oven (some were burned, but others turned out great), bake some steak fries in aluminum foil, make bread-on-a-stick, and simmer the perennial college favorite – Ramen noodles. That was just the cooking part. David also taught them how to lay five fires, and all the ones who had never done it before lit a fire with one match (the secret is to have the right size wood, and enough of it).

So now I need to figure out how we can make up the two we missed. That will be easy for the kids who join the Pathfinder club next month, but it’s possible that not all who were there will do that. I had one boy there who was in the club in previous years, but not last year. His younger brother and sister (twins) were there too. And our neighbors came again! They all had a great time too.

Tomorrow night we wrap it up with the Peacemaker honor.
