Here’s a plant that I first found two years ago at the hotel we’re staying in right now. It’s still growing here, but I could not remember its name. I went through my photo tags and found that it is Buttonweed (Diodia virginiana). It reminds me a lot of bluets, but these are hairy, and they’re in bloom in mid-July.
While I was outside this morning (it was already in the 90’s at 7:00am), I spied this plant too. It is unknown to me:
I’ll try to figure it out when I get home. I’m pretty sure this is common purslane (Portulaca oleracea).
I also found some dock that had gone to seed:
Before it got too hot, we went to visit Va’s aunt. She had yet another unknown plant blooming in her yard:
I feel that I should know this one though. It seems very familiar.

The buttonweed is sure a pretty blossom! I don’t recognize the others. Don’t envy the heat!

I like the buttonweed too, and I went looking specifically for it when we arrived (even though I could not think of its name). It grows low enough to escape the mowers.
As for the heat – I would not have escaped it had we remained in New Hampshire. I heard from friends that it was 97 and muggy in Concord today. My laptop’s weather station is still tuned to NH, and it reads 88 now, at 38 minutes to midnight. Ugh! I DO envy your numb fingers!

The buttonweed is pretty. Never seen anything like that.
The last plant has to be some kind of a wild pansy, by the shape of the leaves, and the flower.

I suppose it could be, but it’s such a tiny flower. I was thinking something more along the lines of lobelia or toadflax.
