I got a headache at work today. I took a couple of Advil, but that didn’t do anything. I sorta knew it wouldn’t either, because the headache was caused by my clogged up sinuses. The only thing that ever helps then is a decongestant, but I didn’t have any. If I had had any sense, I would have gone to the drug store a couple blocks from the office and bought some. But I guess I wasn’t thinking straight – I had a headache.

I was hoping we’d have some decongestant at home, so I bugged out 45 minutes early. We had antihistamine, but no decongestant. Boo. So Va and I drove to Tilton, mailed a letter, and stopped at Walmart. I went in for some Sudafed (or its equivalent). I had never bought drugs there before, so I wasn’t “in their system.” The lady took my driver’s license (thanks meth-heads!) and entered the data in. Then she wanted me to sign the electronic signature pad agreeing to something or another. “Just tap it right here” she said, as she tapped the “ACCEPT” button. I was still reading when she did that, so I said “Don’t I get to read it before I sign it?” “Oh! You wanted to read that? I’ll have to cancel it and re-enter it” which she did at my behest.

I was agreeing to not lie to Walmart about presriptions, under the threat of a $250,000 fine (as levied by the state). OK – but I always read before I sign. And I almost always sign after I read, as I did this time. I paid and took a Sudafed equivalent as soon as I got in the car. Then we went and picked up a bucket of chicken from the Colonel and drove back home.

My headache eventually went away, but I still don’t feel all the great. I’m really tired for some reason. Maybe I should try to get more sleep or something.

Before I go to bed though, I need to review the Sabbath School lesson so I’ll be ready to teach tomorrow. I also need to start getting a sermon together, as I have the pulpit next Sabbath. I have already chosen the topic and have a rough outline, but I’m going to need more details.

Usually sermons are for the adults in the church, but next week I plan to talk to the kids (their parents will be allowed and encouraged to listen too). I’m going to talk about service to others, as that is a big part of what Pathfinders is about, and the Pathfinder year is just about to start. We will have just finished Honors Week. This year we are going to engage in some sort of outreach activity on the first Sabbath of every month, and I want to use this sermon to encourage kids to join us on those expeditions, Pathfinders or not. I will touch on Samson, as a counter example, and probably on Daniel as an example to follow. Samson spent most of his life serving his own interests, and that didn’t work out all the great for him (or for those around him).

Maybe I’ll post an mp3 of the sermon next week. We’ll see how it goes.

Oh yeah – I finished putting the Shells – Advanced honor together tonight for the Wikibook. I have asked my nephew Trevor to do a technical illustration for this honor, and he has agreed to. The book is pretty OK without the illustration, but it will be all the more better once he finishes it and I can add it in. I’m looking forward to getting it.

This is the 200th completed honor (out of 354). There are only five left in the Nature Series, so that chapter will be done pretty soon. Yay! Maybe in time for the book’s third birthday.
